MGB, MGB GT and MGB GT V8 - The MGB introduced in 1962 was of a Monocoque Design, initially it was only sold as a roadster but in 1965 the GT (Grand Tourer) version was introduced, the engine was a 3 main bearing 'B' series 1800cc engine at first but by 1964 the 5 main bearing 'B' series engine was fitted. From 1962 to 1973 the MGB was sold with Chrome bumpers but in 1974 to 1980 it was sold with large rubber bumpers and a raised ride height to comply with American legislation. The early MGB had a 3 synchro gearbox but by late 1967 the 4 synchro gearbox was introduced both gear boxes had the option to upgrade to overdrive which gave improved fuel consumption and better motorway cruising. Between 1973 and 1976 the MGB GT V8 was introduced using the light alloy Rover V8 3500cc engine, initially a chrome bumper but as with the MGB it had rubber bumpers fitted in 1974.
