MGA

The new model after the T-Series was the MGA. First conceived in the early fifties, but production held until 1955. While still an open two-seater it had a wider tapering steel frame chassis so that the passengers sat between the rails rather than on them. A virtually monocoque pressed steel body sat on the chassis. The engine had changed with the first of the “B” series engines at 1489cc with a new four forward speed gearbox. The engine was upgraded to 1588cc in 1959 to provide a power boost and again to 1622cc before production was superseded by the MGB in 1962. Independent front suspension, rack and pinion and drum brakes were featured, later much needed disc brakes were fitted. Production was an amazing 100,000 cars in just seven years. A short lived Twin Cam engine model was built but consisted of only 2000 cars. The body for all models was an open two seater with a pretty two seat coupe also available. Many went to America, particularly the west coast
